The MA in Political Communication is designed to enrich the comprehension and expertise in political communication across both national and international spheres. This MA offers an immersive exploration into how political narratives are shaped within the mass media, enhancing Joe's academic and practical insights into the key players and mechanisms behind political news production.
Delving into the effects of media on political perceptions, the course investigates how media exposure influences public opinion and scrutinises the dynamics between media and political entities, including aspects of government media strategies, censorship, regulations, and ownership.
Armed with essential research and study skills, Joe will be prepared to engage in both professional and scholarly research projects. The curriculum addresses the dynamic and evolving role of communication in politics, spotlighting the significance of emerging online and social media, visual politics, and the impact of media globalisation on political discourse.
By examining the roles of various stakeholders in the political communication process, such as politicians, journalists, and the public, the course leverages contemporary research and case studies to provide a comprehensive understanding of the field.
Starting my journey as the Course Representative for the MA in Political Communication, I advanced to serve my peers in a larger role as Vice-Chair. In this position, I collaborated closely with the Chair and the Student Representative Coordinator (SRC) to enhance the structure and efficiency of the Student Staff Panels (SSPs) through meticulous minute-taking. My journey has now led me to the role of Chairperson of these panels, providing valuable experience for my post-university working capacities.

Since 1950, the objectives of the Association have been ‘to promote the development of political studies and to encourage education and the advancement of learning in the art and science of government and in other branches of the political sciences’. From democracy to dictatorship and local councils to international organisations, Political Studies examines how power is obtained, kept, lost, mobilised, divided, used and abused. It asks who gains and who loses from these processes and why. Politics is studied in theory and in practice, often using scientific methods.
